What's the difference between First Aid at work and Emergency First Aid at Work?

Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work are our most popular courses. This is because both courses are used by companies to comply with the Health and Safety Executives First Aid Regulations, 1981 which requires all employers to make arrangements to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. This includes appointing a suitable amount of first aiders and providing appropriate first aid training.

The differences

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) is designed for low-risk workplaces. It can also be used for staff required to be emergency first aiders or to support a designated first aider trained via the First Aid at Work course.

During this 1-day course, learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations, including managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR, choking, shock, wounds and bleeding, and minor injuries.

The First Aid at Work (FAW) course is designed for workplaces in a higher risk category (engineering, manufacturing, warehousing, construction, chemicals) and workplaces with a variety of underlying health conditions (heart problems, diabetes anaphylaxis, high blood pressure, etc).

The FAW also provides comprehensive training for those who are required to be the designated first aider within their workplace.

Over a 3-day period, learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of first aid situations, including assessing an incident, managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR, heart attacks, choking, head and spinal injuries, fractures, anaphylaxis, and more.

This course can be delivered with blended learning, which will consist of online learning and then 2-days face to face.

Assessments

Both courses are assessed through a mixture of multiple-choice questionnaires and practical assessments.

Certification

Both courses are certified and the qualification lasts three years.
